Lake-Sumter coffee table book debuts
Lake-Sumter coffee table book debuts
STAFF REPORT
It has been billed as "the most beautiful and comprehensive coffee table book ever published on Lake and Sumter counties."
Thursday evening "Lake & Sumter Counties, Florida's Heartland" was unveiled at a special event at Mission Inn.
The 332-page, hardbound book profiles all 19 incorporated cities in Lake and Sumter Counties, including The Villages.
Its 10 chapters cover a growing arts community, history, medical facilities and businesses, as well as the area's relationship with Orlando and Central Florida theme parks, sports and recreational opportunities.
Russ Sloan, director of the Lake-Sumter Community College Business Resources Center, was the person behind the book, seeing it as a marketing tool for Lake and Sumter counties. The project was launched last August.
Instead of hiring a book company, Sloan brought together a team of artists, photographers, writers and designers, which kept the cost of the book down.
Beginning next week, the book will be available at Lake-Sumter Community College Business Resources Center, 9501 U.S. Hwy. 441, Leesburg. It also will be available at participating chambers of commerce, at the three campuses of Lake-Sumter Community College, plus other selected outlets.
The book sells for $34.95 plus tax, or $37.40 total.
