-- Family Physicians Group has scheduled a Medicare Information Fair for Lake County seniors from 9 a.m. - noon Thursday at Minneola City Hall, 800 U.S. Hwy. 27, Minneola. Medicare beneficiaries are encouraged to attend the fair, as it affords the opportunity to learn about various available health plan options to best fit their needs. With the annual enrollment period for Medicare Advantage plans quickly approaching, seniors will be able to make more informed health plan choices during the 45-day enrollment period, which runs from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31. Free information on Medicare, Medicaid and other senior community resources will be provided. In addition to informative presentations and printed take-home materials, health plan representatives will be on hand to answer questions. Attendees will also be eligible for free drawings and prizes with no obligation. Participants at the fair will include representatives from Physicians United Plan (PUP), Social Security Administration, Neighborhood Diabetes, Hispanic Health Initiatives, Department of Children and Families and Alzheimer's Family Organization.

-- Lake County Health Department has received the first shipment of H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine in the form of a nasal spray, which is recommended for use in only healthy people 2 years through 49 years of age who are not pregnant. Most of the vaccine will be delivered to Lake County private providers who will focus on vaccinating children and health care workers. -- Lake County Health Department, Lake and Sumter EMS and Vax Care have begun offering seasonal influenza and pneumonia shots to the public and will continue throughout the flu season. There is no charge for the seasonal flu or pneumonia vaccination with a valid Medicare Part B, the cost without the card is $25 for Flu and $45 for Pneumonia. -- The Lake County Health Department, in collaboration with United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties, now offers Prescription Assistance Services from 1- 4 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday by appointment only at the United Way office, 415 Citrus Tower Blvd., Clermont. The prescription assistance program is available for low-income residents of Lake County and a fee of $7.00 is charged per prescription, up to $21.00 per visit.
